Pre-Conference Activities and Sessions
The Disney Culture – Sunday, December 7, 9:30-11:00am; $50 (Register for this event on your conference registration form)
The Disney “Culture” is engrained into “cast members” (employees) from the time they set foot on a Disney property. This “culture” carries a well-respected reputation in the business world in general. Participants will enjoy a presentation from the Disney Institute, related to how Disney instills their special “corporate culture” in their “cast members,” and how their level of customer service and employee morale are at such a high level as a result. Come and learn from the best!!
Recruiting Trends 2008-2009, with Phil Gardner – Sunday, December 7, 1:30-4:30pm; $75 - price includes a copy of the latest CERI research report. (Register for this event on your conference registration form)
Participants will get a first look at the newest recruiting trends, as reported by the Collegiate Employment Research Institute (CERI) at Michigan State University. The Institute has been conducting an annual survey of national employers for over 30 years, seeking employers’ intentions regarding the hiring of new college graduates. This research provides a snapshot of factors influencing the college labor market, as well as in-depth data, as well as a personal copy of the publication, “Recruiting Trends 2008-2009”. Presenter: Dr. Phil Gardner, Director, CERI.

Are you relatively new to the profession of either college/university Career Services or employer recruiting? If so, this workshop is for you! Career Services and recruiting professionals will meet in separate sessions to cover pertinent information as it relates to your profession. Topics to be covered will include: meeting the needs of various populations; identifying and utilizing resources; marketing strategies in the field; relationship development; professional ethics and more.

Disney Behind-the-Scenes Tour: “Disney by Design” – Wednesday, December 10, 1:30-4:30pm; $99. Click here to register for this event.
Discover the techniques and “tricks of the trade” used by Disney artists, designers, and landscapers to turn resorts, Theme Parks, and office buildings at the Walt Disney World Resort into masterpieces of illusion. Traveling across the property, we will visit the following locations for a close-up look at “architheming:” (maximum 90 guests; must be at least 16 years of age to participate)
- Team Disney: See how Eastern architecture and the culture of Disney come together to form an efficient work space.
- Walt Disney World Casting: Learn how the design and décor of the building helps convey the corporate culture.
- Epcot: Step behind-the-scenes to see how Disney recreates the international landmarks and landscapes of the World Showcase.
- Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort: Experience how nine elements of design can transform an ordinary hotel into a world of fantasy.
- Central Shops: Explore the world of the “can do” builders of the Disney “magic.”
